Strategic Plan 2022-2027

Bringing Contemporary Art to the Community

Executive Summary

PICES is a vibrant, voluntary, not-for-profit organisation based on Phillip Island, Victoria, comprising a multi skilled, enthusiastic group of artists and art lovers committed to delivering a diverse program of contemporary art exhibitions and events to the Phillip Island and Bass Coast community and beyond.

Phillip Island Contemporary Exhibition Space Inc. (PICES) was formed in 2019 after the Saraghi Gallery in Cowes closed, leaving the arts community without an accessible community gallery space.

PICES looks to build positive relationships with artists, art groups, other community groups, businesses and tourism organisations in the region. In particular, PICES looks to engage with Bass Coast Shire Council, Arts and Culture staff, in order to curate and deliver an innovative program of art exhibitions within the new Cowes Cultural Centre gallery (due for completion in 2023).

PICES is unique in what it does and promotes in the region.

  • PICES fills a gap in the Arts and Culture and Tourism environment on Phillip Island

  • It offers opportunities for quality contemporary artists to show their work in professionally curated, high calibre exhibitions held in both traditional and non-traditional spaces on Phillip Island and beyond

  • It has good relationships and works with community groups, galleries and organisations both within and beyond the Bass Coast region ï‚· has presented and curated several successful and original arts initiatives and collaborations over the past three years – Pop Up Exhibitions, Resilience Video, Hoard Project.

PICES Strategic Plan 2022-2027 details a set of robust goals with strategies, and pathways to achieve a sustainable vision of contributing to a thriving, inclusive and diverse artistic community by bringing contemporary art to the Bass Coast and connecting to the wider region.
