PICES – A Growing Force in Contemporary Art on Bass Coast
With a clear vision of “bringing contemporary art to the Bass Coast and connecting to the wider region,” the Phillip Island Contemporary Exhibition Space (PICES) continues to evolve and mature as a leading platform for contemporary visual art. Showcasing a wide range of mediums and styles, PICES exhibitions consistently draw strong support from local audiences and artists alike. Many of these artists—both emerging and established—come from across the Bass Coast, Gippsland, and beyond, with a growing number returning year after year, reflecting their alignment with the PICES mission.
Looking ahead to the 2025–2026 Summer Exhibition Program, PICES is once again set to deliver two major exhibitions. The ever-popular PICES Small Works (formerly 50 x 50) will feature 40–50 artists, while the curated PICES 2026 Contemporary (formerly Pop Up) will highlight work from approximately 16–18 selected artists. A significant portion of the exhibiting artists will be new to PICES, reinforcing its reputation as an inclusive and widely appealing initiative for contemporary creatives.
Now in its third year of partnership with the Bass Coast Shire Council, PICES continues to thrive within a purpose-built gallery space—fostering artistic excellence and community engagement. This collaboration helps drive the shared goal of “building the regional identity as one that is identified with the arts” (BCSC Strategic Plan), with PICES proudly positioned at the forefront of this cultural momentum.
