Phillip Island and Beyond

Stage 1 March 2022 to September 2022

Thompson Avenue, Cowes

"Hoard" - a Pop Up Exhibition curated by PICES for Bass Coast Shire Council.

In February 2022, PICES was engaged by Bass Coast Shire Council (BCSC) to curate "Hoard". A total of seventy artists previously involved in PICES Summer Pop Up Exhibition's were invited to be part of this unique event which showcases some of our most talented local artists as part of the Cowes Cultural Centre development. This latest venture is an exhibition with a twist. “Hoard” features the work of twenty-eight artists, displayed on the hoarding (temporary fencing) around the construction site of the build for the new Cultural Centre in Cowes which will ultimately be the home of a new gallery for Phillip Island.

From a pool of fourty-one submissions, twenty-eight finalists were selected by the judging panel consisting of:

Sandra Peeters, President PICES
Warren Nichols, Curator of PICES 2022 Pop Up Exhibition
Dr Tony Hanning, artist/tutor and independent guest panellist.

The exhibition, which launched on March 14, 2022, presents photographic images of twenty-eight artworks which will be displayed over a period of fourteen months in two separate stages (14 art works per stage).

Stage 1 - March 2022 to September 2022 (current)
Stage 2 - October 2022 to April 2023

Working with Bass Coast Shire Council on this project has been fantastic and it has been rewarding being able to provide local artists with another exhibition opportunity to showcase their work. We would also like to acknowledge Archisign Cowes for their excellent installation and quality reproduction of the artworks on display.

Next time you are in Cowes, Phillip Island be sure to stop and take in this exciting showcase of local artists as you take a stroll up or down Thompson avenue.
